I called Jimmy from Armor Asphalt on Friday, he came out on Saturday( let me stop here, during this 7 month process of me moving into a older house that needed new everything, wiring, plumbing, trees removed, a new metal garage, pretty much everything except the Sheetrock removed, I learned that people who are supposed to be professionals in the trades a vast majority do not return phone calls or follow up. I am in the trades have an office staff and that is unimaginable, I can not imagine what a homeowner that has zero knowledge of how a house is put together goes through to get help, it is bad and no wonder the trades can have a bad reputation) ok back on track, that was NOT the experience I had with Jimmy and Armor Asphalt, we discussed the driveway I wanted, the grading I had done 5 months prior was ruined, washed out, the metal building and its massive concrete pad had sever washout at the edges up to 2’ deep of erosion and valleys leading down the hill from the grading were 2’ wide and all the gravel and fill dirt were down into the yard, it was a freaking mess. We wanted to connect an existing driveway to the new driveway with a sweeping entrance and exit connecting the two, no hard 45 degree turns. Monday morning they arrived, what I saw pull up I was not expecting, this was impressive, big dump trucks, skid steer, asphalt roller, and a paving machine the width of our small street. The truck loads of grave were waiting for the skid steer driver to refill, re contour the 200’ of area that needed to be prepped. I have watched grading, I have a small tractor with bucket, I have seen very good operators before but nothing like this, there was no wasted movement, in three hours 200’ of driveway was contoured smooth as glass and the whole perimeter of the 40x30 building was repaired, new gravel at the base of the pad and the large mound of dirt that was brought in to make the pad level ( 40 loads) was better than original, less fall off and compacted better than previous. The crew never stopped working, they followed the skid steer with shovels and rakes filling in holes and keeping the edges smooth, then the gravel ( abc) was laid down and fir the next couple of hours that was compacted so hard there were no stones sticking up. When the truck loads of blacktop material arrived 7 people surrounded the paving machine to check, leveling, keep the material flowing, fill low spots, 2 people to drive left and right side and 2 to keep the edges sharp and no stray material from going over the edge. 3 hours later now 5 pm I had a beautiful, smooth, transitioned driveway. This work changed the entire appearance of my house, the driveway looks like it belongs on an estate, I have never been so excited to put grass seed down to see the contrast between the house, green grass and pavement, it will be stunning. This is a family owned business, two brothers, a father, the grading crew was relentless, and two sons of the brothers. Like a pit crew, everyone knew their part, I watched all day and had a smile ear to ear watching the transformation. I have spent money on remodeling and reconditioning this 1960 house, I’ve got to say this work has made the most dramatic change to this property and it’s value. Money well spent, got a way better outcome than I ever imagined and I am excited to landscape.
